Photohunter: View

This view needs a little explanation in order to inspire awe. This is a photo taken on Fraser Island, the largest sand dune island in the world. It is about 123 Km in length and 22 Km wide (76 miles long, 13 miles wide), and still growing. The sand comes from the erosion of the near by mountains in the Great Dividing Range, and gets blown out to sea and dropped on the island. This results in huge sand dunes which slowly move through the island and build it up and out. This is a picture of one of those sand dunes. You can see dead trees poking through the middle of the sand, and those are the tallest ones. The rest are buried under a lot of sand.

And a bonus view of the west side of the island at sunset. This is the area where I got the picture of my cute crab at the bottom of the page...

That's really amazing. I had never heard of this. What a unique place. I just looked it up and I will certainly read more about it. Thanks for posting this one.

You can really come up with some unique theme photo's. I always like to get a little education along with the photo's and you do a great job at that.

I almost posted some pics from Fraser Island myself for this photohunt! It's such a unique place, only saw one dingo while I was there though. Good one.

p.s. what kind of crab is that?

Oliemadottie:

It's a Soldier crab.

PS I tried going to your site, to check out your Photohunter/ Life Photo meme entries, and I seem to be having trouble loading your page. It seems to crash everytime I try. Did you add a new widget?

those are nice views but really is all in a person's perspective but the way you explain it, sounds more then just another place and thanks for the info

sand dunes overwhelming an existing island. trees being covered up. this is very interesting. the tasmanian devil was interesting too but the green algae bit reminds me of slime :)

The men in my family - mainly brothers-in-law, have been going up there forever, each year, to go fishing with mates.

I went once on a yachting trip with my dad. :)

Well that really is amazing! And the colours in the second shot are stunning.

Apologies for being so late in returning your visit from last week - holiday internet connection didn't live up to it's promise.
